Islamists continue crackdown against Syria’s Kurds

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that members of an opposition armed group arrested 13 Kurdish citizens near Tal Arran and handed them over to the fighters of Jabhat Al-Nusra in Al Sfera city, north Syria.

The Observatory has also documented the death of 26 Kurdish citizens including a child, who were killed in the period between July 29 and August 5, 2013, in Tal Hasel and Tal Arran towns. Five of the casualties’ bodies were found in Tal Hasel and the others were in Tal Arran.

Sources from the area reported the killing of five fighters of Jabhat Al Akrad−a Kurdish anti-Assad armed group that cooperates currently with other Kurdish fighters against Islamists.

According to the Observatory, activists reported that there was “a number of victims and injuries”, without revealing names because of the fear of arrest by Islamist fighters of Jabhat Al Nusra, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and other fighting troops.

The Observatory also stressed on documenting 250 arrested citizens from Tal Arran and Tal Hasel towns since the start of incidents these areas. Most of the victims were buried confidentially for security reasons. The injured who were receiving treatment have been reportedly executed by Islamists in local hospitals under the pretext of fighting against Jabhat Al Nusra and the ISIS.

Activists of the Syrian Observatory confirmed that a number of FSA-lined fighters joined Jabhat Al Nusra and ISIS in their attacks on Tal Arran and Tal Hasel.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, headed by Rami Abdulrahman, is specialized in observing human rights’ violations that take place in Syria and presents itself as independent of any political agenda.
