Tel Abyad, al-Raqqa, Syria − The Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) and the brigade of al-Akrad Front attacked unexpectedly the headquarters of al-Qaeda affiliated groups of the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS) and the Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham in the village of Sousik, near the city of Tel Abyad.

The operation was meant to “liberate” the village after it was controlled by the Islamist groups nearly two months ago, sources said.

In a phone call with ARA Newsa member of the YPG forces confirmed that they have taken over the village of Sousik after fierce clashes with the Islamist fighters.

“We have fully liberated Sousik of those al-Qaeda affiliated groups and we seized a gun (model 23) and three cars provided with Dushka weapon,” the YPG fighter told ARA News.

He also said that a member of the YPG was killed during the clashes, while dozens of ISIS and Ahrar al-Sham were killed.

“Dozens of extremists were killed, as one of comrades lost his life, beside a villager who was slightly injured during the attack,” the YPG member added. “we captured more than 20 members from both groups (in reference to ISIS and Ahrar al-Sham).”

In the same context, sources in the western suburbs of the city of Tel Abyad −preferred anonymity− told ARA News that the YPG besieged the village of al-Kalba, south-west of Tel Abyad city.

“There are casualties among the armed Islamists in the village, some are dead and others are seriously injured,” the sources added.

Last week, the YPG forces attacked the headquarters of the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS) and the FSA battalions in the village of Bir Kino, west of the city of Tel Abyad. The attack took place as a response to the bombing of the Kurdish villages west of the city on the hand of Islamists of ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra.

According to the Hawar news network, the attack resulted in 18 casualties, most of them were from the Islamist groups, “two cars were destroyed and 4 Dushka guns, while one of the YPG members lost his life in the operation”.

On the other hand, there are also sporadic clashes in the village of Mahmoudiya between the YPG and the Islamist groups, where four members of those battalions killed, according to Hawar.
