Aleppo, Syria− Dozens of casualties in the ranks of the ISIL group were reported on Friday after clashes with al-Akrad Front Brigade (Jabhat al-Akrad) near Aleppo.

Several al-Qaeda-linked fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) were killed while others were injured when clashes broke out between them and members of al-Akrad (Kurdish) Front −affiliated with the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

Spokesman of the al-Akrad Front’s media office stated to ARA News that Friday’s clashes took place in al-Waqf village near al-Bab city, in Aleppo’s northern countryside.

“A number of ISIL fighters were killed in the clashes and several others were injured, while one of our fighters was injured,” said Ahmad Hisso, spokesman of the Front’s media office.

In a previous statement on Thursday, the media office of the Kurdish Front told ARA News that fighters of the Front “in coordination with other FSA battalions” could control al-Waqf village after clashes with the ISIL fighters, adding that the Front members seized an ammunition depot and a car loaded with a heavy machine gun (Dushka).

“The ISIL fighters tried on Friday to regain control over the village, but our fighters were able to repel the attack which afflicted losses among both parties,” Hisso said.

Since nearly two months, the Syrian rebels are in conflict with the al-Qaeda affiliated ISIL which is accused of having ties with the Assad regime, according to the opposition. The rebels-ISIL conflict spread across different areas in Aleppo, Idlib and Raqqa provinces. Thousands of fighters from both sides were reportedly killed.
