Aleppo, Syria− On Sunday, nearly 25 civilians were killed and 40 others wounded after the pro-regime air force bombed several neighbourhoods in the city of Aleppo.

The military crackdown on Aleppo has increased in the last few weeks as no signs appear for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, despite the start of the second stage of peace negotiations in Geneva between delegations of the regime and the opposition.

Mustafa Abdul Aziz, a human rights activist based in the city of Aleppo, told ARA News that 20 civilians were killed after the pro-regime helicopters attacked the neighbourhood of al-Haydariya with an explosive barrel, dropped on a residential building and more than 35 others were injured and transferred to field hospitals in the city.

Al-Haydariya attack left behind a severe damage in residential buildings and destroyed four other buildings in al-Dawwar area in the same neighbourhood.

“The civil defence (formed by locals) and residents cooperated lifting some of the victims from the rubble,” Abdul Aziz added.

In a linked context, the regime air force bombed Aleppo’s al-Qartaji district with explosive barrels. No casualties were reported. Meanwhile, a similar attack was launched against al-Ansari neighbourhood, killing at least five people and wounding several others.

Activists reported that more than 700 explosive barrels were used by the Syrian air force over the last few weeks to bomb different areas east of Aleppo city, north Syria.
