Qamishli, Syria – On the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the establishment of the first Kurdish political party in Syria (under the name of “the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria in 1957, PDK-S”), Syria Kurds celebrated in several northeastern cities. The celebrations took place despite the decision of the Assayish forces (security arm of the Democratic Union Party PYD) to prevent any gatherings in the area on that day.
The KDP-S members organized a celebration to mark the occasion of founding the first Kurdish party in Syria in 1957, in its headquarters in Qamishl city, northeast of Syria, with the participation of cadres and the party secretary members, where Kurdish folk songs and dances were performed.
Meanwhile, the Kurdish Democratic Progressive Party in Syria revived the occasion at the Qasr al-Nubala’ Hall in Qamishli. The ceremony included a speech by the secretary of the party, Abdul Hamid Darwish, in which he referred to the ongoing Syrian crisis, saying: “The political solution is the only way to resolve the crisis in Syria”.
“On this occasion, we call on the opposition to unite and adopt the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people,” Darwish stated.
Supporters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria (KDP-S) gathered in the Maysaloon Square in Qamishli and raised the Kurdish flags and banners calling for a fair solution to the Kurdish issue in Syria.
Mohsen Taher, member of the Political Bureau of the KDP-S, delivered a speech in which he emphasized that the Kurdish national movement is part of the national movement in Syria, condemning the Democratic Union Party’s (PYD) practices towards members of the Kurdish parties (in reference to campaigns of arrests against rival Kurdish politicians by the PYD-linked forces).
On the other hand, the Assayish forces in the city of Derik (Malikiya) prevented a celebration organized by the Kurdish National Council (KNC) on the anniversary of founding the first Kurdish party in Syria. The KNC didn’t apply at the Assayish for a permit to revive the occasion due to political disputes.
In the same context, the PYD-linked security forces of the Assayish in Kobane city, in Aleppo Province, prevented the revival of the same occasion called for by the Democratic Party of Kurdistan – Syria (KDP-S) in the party’s headquarters in the city. The Assayish forces closed down the party’s office in Kobane for “violating the rules” (holding a celebration without Assayish’s permit).
Talking to ARA News, Ahmed Sulaiman, prominent member in the Kurdish Democratic Progressive Party in Syria, said: “Reviving the anniversary of the first Kurdish Party in Syria is quite important as it reminds us of the first step towards struggling for a real solution to the Kurdish cause in Syria.”
“To guarantee that the efforts of these decades did’t go in vain, we need to accomplish a full recognition to the national and cultural rights of our people,” Sulaiman said.
