Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, announced on Thursday evening his official resignation from position, declaring his support to new PM Haidar al-Abadi.
Al-Mliki’s resignation came after regional and international pressures, especially by U.S. and Iranian ally.
“ I will be the facilitator and assistant for those who are standing against division of Iraq. I ask the ISF to stay where they are and defend Iraq,” al-Maliki said in the speech of stepping down on Thursday.
