Hasakah, Syria Clashes between Lebanese Army forces and Islamists continue for the fourth consecutive day in the town of Arsal on the Lebanese-Syrian borders.

Civil activist Aboud Nasser talked to ARA News from the Syrian-Lebanese borders saying: “Lebanese army forces carried out artillery shelling on Arsal, where many Syrian refugees are based.”

“The shelling forced many refugees to leave their camps in Arsal escaping violence,” Nasser said.

The violence in Arsal caused the death of 8 civilians on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the medical assembly of Arsal announced receiving 88 civil casualties in its hospitals since the start of the operations.

“The assembly’s medical staff performed five surgical operations for five serious cases,” Nasser told ARA News.

Wednesday clashes spread over Arsal’s surrundings to include Ras al-Serj, al-Mahnya, Ain Ata and Wadi al-Rayyan.

The Lebanese army, supported by militants of Hezbollah, used artillery shelling, local sources reported.

Those clashed started four days ago, following the detention of the leader of Fajr al-Islam Brigade inside Lebanon.

Mediations failed to release the leader of the brigade working in the Syrian town of al-Qusayr in Homs environs. Fajr al-Islam Brigade has recently announced allegiance to the Islamic State (IS).
