Qamishli, Syria – The Syrian regime-linked Charity and Social Services Association in Qamishli city distributed on Friday food aid to the Kurdish Yezidi refugees who entered the Kurdish areas in Syria during the past few days, following attacks by al-Qaeda offshoot group of the Islamic State (IS) on the area of Shingal (Sinjar) in northern Iraq.

Speaking to ARA News in Qamishli, a worker in the regime-linked Association said that they distributed humanitarian aid to the Iraqi Yezidi families “in order to show our solidarity with this minority group which escaped terrorists of IS”.

“The Association helped the refugees in cooperation with the UNICEF in the northeastern villages and the towns of Qahtaniyah (Tirbespi) Jawadiya (Chel Agha) and Newroz camp for the refugee supervised by the Democratic Union Party (PYD)-linked Auto-Administration in the city of Derik (Malikiya),” the source reported.

The source pointed out that the aid included food, clothing for children and washing materials, adding that the Association in cooperation with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Qamishli has distributed tents to the Iraqi Yezidi families coming to Hasakah province, northeast of Syria.

Civil activist Rezan Osman told ARA News that the Syrian Arab Red Crescent also contributed to providing humanitarian assistance and food to the displaced Yezidi families. “Moreover, some Kurdish civil organizations also provided aid to Yezidi refugees in the last few days,” Osman said.

The Minister of Social Affairs of the Syrian regime, Kinda Shammat, told regime-linked media sources earlier this week that Syria receives thousands of Iraqi families displaced from Shingal and Sinjar Mount in northern Iraq after securing a compound to house them in al-Malikiya area in Hasakah province.

Noteworthy, the Assayish forces (security arm of the PYD) prevented last Sunday members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria (KDP-S) from transporting food and other humanitarian supplies to the Yezidi refugees in the city Tirbespi (Qahtaniyah), and arrested members of the party when they collected aid in the city of Qamishlo (Qamishli), according to local sources.
