Kobane, Syria – The joint leader of the Democratic Union Party in Syria (PYD), Asya al-Abdullah, appealed to the Turkish authorities to supply the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) with arms in order to fight the extremists of the Islamic State (IS).
Al-Abdullah told Reuters that the Democratic Union Party (PYD) is ready to cooperate with any party or force fighting the organization of the Islamic State (also known as ISIS, ISIL), pointing to the YPG’s joint military operations with factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in Kobane (Ain al-Arab) of Aleppo province, northern Syria.
She also stressed the danger of not providing support and arms to the Kurdish forces fighting the IS group in Syria’s Kobane, given that it is adjacent to the Turkish border.
“If Kobane fell in the hands of IS terrorists, nothing will prevent them from advancing towards Turkey,” Abdualla argued.
It should be added that IS militants imposed a blockade on the city of Kobane, in an attempt to break into the city where Kurdish armed factions are based, following militants’ control of all of the surrounding villages, causing the displacement of more than 100 thousand inhabitants of the region to flee to Turkey.
