Suruc, Turkey – On Thursday, the Islamic State’s (IS/ISIS) militants targeted the border crossing at the Syrian-Turkish border near the Kurdish city of Kobane with mortar fire.

At least two civilians were wounded due to the mortar shells launched by IS extremists,” Muhammed Arif, a Kurdish doctor working at a field hospital in Kobane, told ARA News.

“The shelling hit the crossing, but the Turkish border guards didn’t respond,” Arif said.

According to local sources, IS launched the attack from its strongholds in the village of Qereh Hilinj in the countryside of Kobane.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death tolls in the ranks of the conflicting groups in Kobane, saying that at least 374 militants of the IS have been killed so far since the start of the clashes in Kobane in mid-September. While the anti-IS Kurdish forces have lost an estimated 285 fighters.

“However, the accurate number might be twice that of than what the Observatory could document so far,” the Britain-based Syrian Observatory reported on Thursday.
