Istanbul, Turkey – The Syrian Violations’ Documentation Center reported Monday that extremists of the Islamic State (IS/ISIL) have so far executed and beheaded more than 1500 people in Syrian since the announcement of the alleged “Caliphate” by the group last June.

The center has reportedly documented the execution of 1429 people at the hands of the radical group’s militants in various areas of control across Syria.

“Most of those executed were civilians,” the source reported, without referring to similar incidents in Iraqi areas under the rule of the alleged “Caliphate”.

Speaking to ARA News in Deir ez-Zor, human rights activist Majed Aboud reported that among those who had been beheaded or shot dead in the mass killings by IS terrorists were 879 civilians, including at least 700 of the al-Sheitaat clan in Deir ez-Zor suburbs.

“Last August, IS extremists executed more than 700 people from the renowned Arab clan of al-Sheitaat in Deir ez-Zor, following their rebellion against the group following the militants’ control of the oil-rich province (Deir ez-Zor) in eastern Syria,” Aboud said.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the number of pro-regime soldiers and officers executed by the radical group reached 483 officers and soldiers.

The most recent execution was carried out against the Alawite Colonel, Aktham Khatib, from Qardahah (hometown of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad), alongside other soldiers from the Syrian army on Sunday.

Noteworthy, the IS group posted a video online Sunday, showing the execution of the American aid worker Peter Edward Kassig (known also as Abdul-Rahman) who was kidnapped by the group in Syria last year. Kessig was executed alongside 15 soldiers and officers from the Syrian regime’s army.
