Iraq’s Ramadi under ISIS attacks

ARA News

Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – On Saturday, militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) launched a major attack against the city of Ramadi in Anbar province, western Iraq, killing at least 20 soldiers.

According to Iraqi officials, the IS attacks against Ramadi was one of the deadliest against Iraqi army forces.

Dozens of Iraqi soldiers have been abducted Saturday by IS extremists in Anbar province.

“Clashes are ongoing around the city. A series of mortar attacks have targeted areas inside the city, including provincial council buildings and a police post,” AFP quoted an Iraqi official as saying.

This comes as the U.S.-led coalition intensifies its strikes against strongholds of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and as the U.S. tries to expand the role of Turkey in the anti-IS campaign.
