Raqqa, Syria – Activists reported that on Sunday the U.S.-led international coalition carried out approximately 30 airstrikes against headquarters of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in the province of Raqqa, in northern Syria, activists reported.

Raqqa’s northern suburb saw intensive raids by the U.S.-led warplanes, targeting main strongholds of the IS extremists.

“The Syrian army base of 17th Division, which is under IS control since July, was exposed to several raids,” a local activist told ARA News under the condition of anonymity.

The same source added that dozens of IS militants left their positions and headed to the city of Raqqa.

“The outcomes of Sunday’s strikes are still unknown,” he said.
