Hasakah, Syria ــ One day after the truce agreement between the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the pro-regime military forces in the city of Hasakah, in northeastern Syria, the pro-regime militia of the National Defense violated the truce, local sources reported on Tuesday.

Breaking the truce agreement which was mediated by the elderly people of the city of Hasakah resulted in clashes between YPG fighters and pro-Assad gunmen of the National Defense in several areas of the city.

Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, civil rights activist Sohrab Saadi said that National Defense militants advanced toward the al-Wehda al-Arabiya School in the Aziziyah neighborhood where Kurdish forces of the YPG and Assayish (military and security arms of the Democratic Union Party “PYD”) are stationed.

“This led to the outbreak of fierce clashes between the two sides amid mass displacement of civilians from the Aziziyah neighborhood toward the Mufti and Salihiya neighborhoods.”

“Similar clashes erupted between regime forces and the YPG fighters near the al-Ghazl checkpoint in the al-Ghazl neighborhood, but on injures were documented,” Saadi added.

Adnan Hussein, based in the Tel Hajar district of Hasakah, told ARA News that the National Defence militia (a group composed of Arab gunmen loyal to the Syrian regime) has been trying since Tuesday morning to advance and take control of the Assyrian Church roundabout, which led to clashes between the Kurdish forces and the National Defense.

Hussein pointed out that some pro-Assad snipers (who are stationed at tops of buildings) prevent residents from leaving their homes in Hasakah, in addition to the mortar fire launched by regime forces against the Kalasa neighborhood.
