Suruc, Turkey – Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) regained control of the national hospital and surrounding neighborhoods in the southern part of the city of Kobane, in northern Syria, and expanded their control around al-Hal market, in the eastern part of the city, military sources reported on Thursday.
Speaking to ARA News on the phone, Saeed Judi, a fighter in the ranks of the YPG, confirmed that the defending forces of the city took control of the hospital building and the surrounding area, advancing on Aleppo’s highway.
“The YPG fighters are advancing on the eastern fighting front, expanding their control over areas in the vicinity of al-Hal market and the surrounding districts,” Judi added.
The YPG issued a statement announcing the death of 26 militants of the IS group during yesterday’s clashes in Kobane.
The YPG’s leadership seized heavy weapons following the withdrawal of the militants south of the city, including tanks, 106 mm cannon, mortars and heavy machine guns.
Losses of the IS group in Kobane saw an increase this week, especially after losing strategic locations in the city, as many of its leaders have been killed, the last of whom was Sultan Safri Harbiــــ who was killed in a U.S. raid on Wednesday, according to pro-IS media sources.
