Damascus, Syria – Fierce clashes broke out between the Syrian regime’s military forces and the opposition fighters in the vicinity of the Yarmouk camp, Palestine Street, and the al-Tadamun neighborhood, in southern Damascus, sources in the Syrian armed opposition announced on Thursday.

In conjunction with the clashes in the neighborhoods south of the capital, the Syrian regime forces pounded the area with heavy artillery where the opposition combatants were positioned.

On the other hand, the Jobar neighborhood in Damascus witnessed fierce clashes between fighters of the Unified Command (linked to the opposition) in the eastern Ghouta and the pro-regime military forces backed by Shiite militants of Hezbollah.

Rastan’s Operations Chamber

In the city of Rastan in Homs, a number of armed opposition groups operating in the city and its suburbs announced in a statement on Wednesday the formation of a Joint Operations Chamber in order to combat the Syrian regime forces in the area.

The statement, which was recited by one of the opposition factions’ leaders, said: “Major Ali Mohammed Ayyoub is appointed as commander of the Operations Chamber, which includes Homs Liberation Movement, al-Khalil Brigade, the First Infantry Brigade, Zi al-Nourain Brigade and a number of other armed factions of the opposition.

Noteworthy, the Syrian regime imposes a complete siege on the cities and towns of the northern countryside of Homs, which is still out of its control, amid daily raids and shelling on the area, according to local sources.

“While, the IS militant group committed eight massacres in December 2014,” the report read.

The report also added that the city of Deir ez-Zor, in eastern Syria, witnessed last month nine massacres, while the city of Damascus and its countryside were exposed to eight massacres.
