Tunisia arrests radicals returning from Syria

Damascus, Syria – The Tunisian authorities have reportedly arrested 32 extremists on charges of planning terrorist attacks, local media said Saturday.

According to official sources, among the arrested suspects were militants who have recently returned from Syria after participating in the ranks of radical groups there. 

“Counter-terrorism forces foiled plots to carry out spectacular attacks against vital installations, including the Interior Ministry, security stations and civilian buildings in the capital Tunis,” spokesman of the Tunisian Interior Ministry, Mohammed Ali Aroui, stated.

“During the past three days, we arrested 32 terrorists from this group planning to attack targets in Tunis and other cities. Some of the arrested terrorists have recently returned from fighting in Syria.” 

About 3,000 Tunisians have so far joined the conflict in Syrian, most of them participated in military operations on behalf of the radical group of the Islamic State (IS/ISIL), according to reports.
