Istanbul, Syria – The Turkish authorities announced Wednesday the arrest of 13 foreign jihadists who were planning to cross into Syria to join the ranks of the Islamic State radical group (IS/ISIS).
Security forces reportedly captured the suspects in southern Gaziantep on Monday.
The Turkish General Staff released a statement saying the border police are applying strict procedures to prevent extremist fighters from entering Syria.
“The (suspects) foreigners were handed over to police to be deported,” the statement said.
Turkey has repeatedly been accused of facilitating the movement of foreign jihadists through its borders with Syria.
