Damascus, Syria – The Combined Joint Task Force reported on Saturday that the U.S. and coalition military forces continued to attack strongholds of the Islamic State radical group (IS/ISIL) in Syria and Iraq.
In a press release, the coalition reported that its forces conducted 15 airstrikes in Syria and 13 others in Iraq, during which the warplanes targeted tactical units and weaponry of the IS militants in north countries.
In Syria, the U.S.-led strikes were mainly focused on the radical group’s positions in the countryside of Hasakah, where 13 airstrikes struck three large and seven small IS tactical units, destroying nine IS fighting positions, ten vehicles, two heavy machine guns and an armored vehicle.
Near Kobane, one airstrike hit an IS tactical unit, destroying a vehicle and a heavy machine gun belonging to the radical group.
Another strike targeted an IS building and an IS vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in Aleppo.
The U.S.-led airstrikes in Iraq hit the group in separate locations, including Asad area where a tactical unite of the IS militants was targeted.
“Near Beiji, four airstrikes struck two ISIL tactical units, destroying three ISIL VBIEDS, two ISIL IED staging areas, an ISIL structure, an ISIL vehicle and an ISIL IED,” the statement said.
“Near Fallujah, four airstrikes struck an ISIL tactical unit, an ISIL weapons facility, an ISIL IED staging facility, an ISIL VBIED facility, destroying an ISIL VBIED and an ISIL heavy machine gun.”
Another airstrike was carried out in Mosul and destroyed an IS excavator. A mortar position for the group was also targeted in Sinjar.
“Near Tal Afar, two airstrikes destroyed an ISIL building, an ISIL excavator, an ISIL heavy machine gun and an ISIL fighting position,” the statement added.
“The strikes were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the operation to eliminate the ISIL terrorist group and the threat they pose to Iraq, Syria, the region and the wider international community. The destruction of ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the terrorist group’s ability to project terror and conduct operations.”
