Geneva – British police arrested a 30-year-old woman at Birmingham Airport on suspicion of preparing to travel to Syria to join the militant group of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS), UK security officials said on Wednesday.
The Leicester woman was planning to travel with three children when she was stopped by West Midlands Police Counter Terrorism Unit on Wednesday morning.
“Her house and other suspected addresses are being searched and we are working with partner agencies to make sure the children are looked after,” British police said in a statement.
“Officers have 36 hours to question the suspect before charging or releasing her, or applying to a court for a warrant of further detention.”
More that 700 Britons have travelled to Syria to join the radical group of the Islamic State there.
