Aleppo, Syria – On Wednesday, Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) targeted headquarters of al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda branch in Syria) with a car bomb attack in the northern countryside of Aleppo, pro-Nusra sources reported.
Speaking to ARA News, Abu Adham, member of Sharia court in al-Nusra Front, said that an IS-led car bomb attack targeted one of the headquarters of al-Nusra Front in the northern countryside of Aleppo near the checkpoint of Malikiya village, adjacent to the military airport of Minningh.
“The attack killed seven members of the Front and wounded nine others, blowing up the entire checkpoint,” he added.
Subsequently, clashes broke out between Nusra fighters and IS militants near Malikiya village, north Aleppo.
The clashes centered in the areas of Ghazl, Tel Mald, Oum Hosh and Soran Azaz, “during which heavy weapons and rocket launchers were used,” the Nusra source said.
The clashes coincided with intensive sorties by the U.S.-led coalition’s warplanes.
Islamic State’s insurgents have been targeting strongholds of Nusra and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the northern countryside of Aleppo with suicide attacks since months. IS accuses Syrian opposition fighters of apostasy for the support they receive from the U.S. and allies, while the fight with Nusra is caused by rifts between both groups who are originally affiliated with al-Qaeda.
