Erbil, Kurdistan Region – On Saturday, the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) transferred at least 50 Syrian young men to Iraq. Most of them are former fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) “who had declared their repentance” at the hands of IS militants, local sources in Deir ez-Zor province told ARA News.
This comes after the group opened the door for the alleged repentance under the supervision of al-Hisba centers across Deir ez-Zor province, east Syria.
“According to IS officials, every Syrian repentant will receive Sharia lessons over one month and a half in Iraq,” a resident of Deir ez-Zor told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.
Civil rights activist Saray ad-Din, based in al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, said that the IS radical group has earlier sent more than 150 young men from the Syrian cities of Manbij and Jarabulus to Iraqi Mosul “under the pretext of providing them with Sharia education after forcibly pledging allegiance to the group”.
“However, those young Syrians are being recruited to fight in IS’ ranks in Iraq,” ad-Din told ARA News on the phone.
The IS extremist group has imprisoned and executed dozens of Syrian rebel fighters of the FSA. The group currently suffers a shortage of fighters, “that’s why it currently recruits many Syrian youth, regardless of their participation in anti-IS battles earlier,” ad-Din said.
