Erbil, Kurdistan Region –On Thursday, the radical group of Islamic State (IS/ISIS) in Egypt’s Sinai claimed responsibility for an attack that led to the destruction of an Egyptian navy frigate off the Rafah coast.
The IS-run Media Office of “Sinai state” released images of the frigate’s destruction on Thursday, showing plumes of smoke that arose from the targeted frigate.
The frigate, which was floating off the coast of Rafah town, was hit with two guided missiles, causing a complete destruction and the killing of its crew members, according to the IS Media Center in Sinai.
The Sinai region in eastern Egypt has been repeatedly attacked by IS militants.
Last week, the extremist group claimed responsibility for a terrorist attack in Sinai that left dozens of Egyptian soldiers dead.
