Qamishli, Syria – Nabil al-Arabi, Secretary General of the Arab League, said that the U.N. special envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura. will visit Cairo on Friday to meet Egyptian officials.

Al-Arabi pointed out that de Mistura intends to discuss with Egyptian officials possible solutions to end Syria’s conflict.

“We will call for the formation of an interim commission that can lead the transitional phase in Syria. A political solution is the only way out of the Syrian conflict, and all rival parties should play a role in that,” he told the London-based newspaper of ash-Sharq al-Awsat.

Al-Arabi added that the decision to reaccept Syria as a member of the Arab League is conditioned by stopping bombarding innocent civilians, surrendering to a political solution for the 4-year-long deadly crisis.

Speaking to ARA News, Mohammed Amin Arnah, an International Law specialist based in Cairo, said that eliminating the terrorist group of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) is the first step towards a real solution in Syria.

“The United Nations should take serious steps regarding ending the ongoing conflict in Syria. Eliminating ISIS and removing Assad regime are basic conditions for a real change. Otherwise, this bloody conflict will continue and claim more lives of innocent people,” he said.
