Damascus, Syria – Warplanes of the U.S.-led international coalition intensified its strikes against locations of Islamic State’s (ISIL) militants in Syria and Iraq.
The coalition conducted 30 new strikes against strongholds of the IS militant group, 15 in Syria and a similar number of strikes in Iraq, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement on Wednesday.
The U.S.-led coalition carried out 10 airstrikes on tactical units and fighting positions of IS extremists in Syria’s Hasakah, destroying staging areas, bunkers and three checkpoints of the radical group.
“Strikes also targeted Islamic State near (Syria’s) Raqqah and Kobane,” the central command said.
In Iraq, “strikes were spread throughout the country, but the three near Ramadi were intended to hit crucial targets for Islamic State,” said Colonel Wayne Marotto, chief of public affairs for the coalition’s Combined Joint Task Force.
“Coalition air strikes are supporting Iraqi-planned and led ground operations around the Anbar capital Ramadi, specifically targeting Daesh (IS) units, vehicles, buildings, material and IED stores,” Marotto said.
“We select targets that would provide Daesh a tactical advantage,” he added.
