Hasakah, Syria – More than 50 militants from the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) were killed when the U.S.-led coalition’s warplanes targeted a building where the radical group was holding a meeting in a village east of Hasakah city in northeastern Syria, local sources said on Monday.
Sources in the Silaliyah village in the eastern countryside of Hasakah told ARA News that a U.S.-led strike hit the house of the village’s headman, “where dozens of Daesh (IS) militants were meeting on Sunday midnight.”
“More than 50 corpses of Daesh militants were pulled from the ruins of the bombed building on Monday afternoon,” an eyewitness told ARA News in Silaliyah village.
The targeted village (12km east of Hasakah city) has recently seen a wave of mass displacement among civilians after it fell to IS militants.
Separately, fierce clashes took place between Kurdish fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and IS extremists in the southwestern countryside of Hasakah, activists said on Monday.
“The clashes centered on the outskirts of Abyad sub-district southwest of Hasakah. IS terrorists were trying to infiltrate into the city through Abyad area before being attacked by the Kurdish YPG fighters. The clashes continued until Monday midnight,” local media activist Abdulkarim Saleh told ARA News.
This coincided with continuous strikes by the U.S.-led coalition on IS positions in Hasakah countryside, which concentrated on the radical group’s strongholds near Tel Brak town in the province.
