Hasakah, Syria – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) launched an offensive on headquarters of the Kurdish forces of People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Hasakah province in northeastern Syria, military sources reported on Wednesday.
ISIS militants attacked a center for the YPG in Mount Abdulaziz (Kazwan mountain) in the western countryside of Hasakah.
At least two YPG fighters were killed and four others injured in Wednesday’s attack.
Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, aYPG spokesman said that ISIS militants shelled a security center for the YPG in Mount Abdulaziz with mortars.
“The shelling caused the death of two of our fighters and injured four others,” he said.
“The attack was followed by clashes between our (YPG) forces and ISIS terrorists, who withdrew after two hours of fighting,” the source added. “Several terrorists were killed during the clashes.”
Kurdish forces of the YPG regained Mount Abdulaziz in May, subsequent to fierce battles against the ISIS radical group. Dozens of fighters were killed on both sides during the battle for Mount Abdulaziz, which constitutes a strategic military location as it overlooks large areas of the embattled countryside of Hasakah.
