GENEVA – N1TV fired a Hungarian camerawoman Tuesday after deliberately kicking refugees, including children, in Roszke village, southern Hungary.
Petra Laszlo appeared in a footage while deliberately tripping refugees as they ran from a police line during disturbances at Roszke.
Laszlo tripped a man sprinting with a child in his arms, while another footage showed the TV camerawoman kicking another running child on the Hungary-Serbia border during a police crackdown on refugees.
N1TV, an internet-based TV station close to Hungary’s far-right Jobbik party, broadcasted the footages on Tuesday evening.
“An N1TV colleague today behaved in an unacceptable way at the Roszke collection point,” said Szabolcs Kisberk, N1TV’s editor-in-chief.
“The camerawoman’s employment contract has been terminated with immediate effect as of today, we consider the matter closed,” Kisberk said in a post on the channel’s Facebook page.
Activists shared the incident’s video on social media, saying Laszlo’s behavior largely represents the attitude of the Hungarian government towards the refugees’ influx into the country.
