TEL ABYAD – Clashes broke out between Kurdish fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the vicinity of Tel Aybad city in the northern countryside of Raqqa, military sources reported on Tuesday.
At least two ISIS militants were killed and four injured during clashes with Kurdish YPG fighters in the town of Ain Issa near Tel Abyad city.
Speaking to ARA News, YPG fighter Habun Osman said that ISIS extremists infiltrated into Ain Issa town in an attempt to attack Kurdish headquarters on Tuesday.
“However, our forces were prepared for such operations and responded immediately by killing and injuring several ISIS terrorists, while the rest were forced to withdraw,” Osman said.
Fighters of the YPG also destroyed two ISIS vehicles during the clashes of Ain Issa, the source said.
The Kurdish forces regained the Ain Issa town from ISIS militants last month following fierce battles.
This comes after the YPG and allied Syrian rebels liberated the strategic city of Tel Abyad north of Raqqa and expelled ISIS from its crossing on the Turkish border.
