ALEPPO – Warplanes of the U.S.-led coalition targeted a military convoy for the Islamic State radical group (ISIS) in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, killing 14 ISIS militants and destroying five vehicles, activists reported on Friday.

The coalition forces hit an ISIS convoy near Dalha town in the northern countryside of Aleppo with some eight airstrikes.

“At least 14 ISIS members were killed in Friday’s strikes. The operations have also caused the destruction of five vehicles that were apparently loaded with heavy weapons and ammunition near Dalha town,” media activist Qassim al-Halabi told ARA News in Aleppo.

“The U.S.-led coalition has also targeted strongholds of ISIS in several villages in the vicinity of Dalha town,” the source added. It was not immediately clear whether the strikes on the villages near Dalha have hit direct targets of the radical group.

In the meantime, clashes continued on Friday evening between Syrian rebel fighters of al-Shamiya Front and militants of ISIS near the Marea town north of Aleppo.

Speaking to ARA News, spokesman of al-Shamiya Front Saleh al-Zein said that ISIS launched a heavy artillery shelling on Marea town “in an attempt to open the path for its terrorists to infiltrate into the strategic town”.

“Our rebels have counter-attacked ISIS with mortar fire,” he said. There were no reports of casualties.
