ERBIL – Iraqi local sources reported on Monday the death of more than 300 civilians from the Sunni Muslim community of Fallujah at the hands of the pro-government Shia militia of the Popular Mobilisation Forces [al-Hashid al-Sha’bi] north of Fallujah, after accusing them of supporting ISIS.

The summary executions have reportedly taken place in the village of Saqlawiya in the northern countryside of Fallujah.

“Dead bodies of at least 300 civilians were found in the Al-Nourain school yard in the village,” local media activist Oubaida al-Dulaimi told ARA News. “All the victims were from the al-Saqlawiya tribe.”

The civilians were reportedly captured by the Shia militia of al-Hashid al-Sha’bi while they were trying to escape Fallujah, where violence mounted recently amid fierce clashes between ISIS and Iraqi troops.

“Many innocent civilians have been executed by the government forces on charges of supporting ISIS,” head of Nineveh media centre Raafat al-Zarari told ARA News.

“Most of them were arrested by the pro-government Shia militiamen for being Sunni Muslims, and shot dead under the pretext that they were pro-ISIS,” the source said.

Also, more than 500 displaced civilians from Fallujah arrived to the Ameriya district after escaping their war-torn hometown, activists told ARA News on Monday.
