QAMISHLIThe head of the defence commission of the local administration in Cezire canton in Rojava Rezan Gullo denied on Sunday that any Turkish coup pilot has entered northern Syria and rejected the coup attempt by the Turkish army.

“The coup was not for democracy nor for freedom,” Gullo told ARA News.

“We don’t support coups since they don’t lead to democracy,” he said.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that the Kurdish officials in Syria see the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in a better light.

“[Recep Tayyip] Erdogan’s regime is a dictatorship, and all Islamic terrorist groups in Syria are backed by him,” he said, accusing the Turkish government of supporting jihadist groups.

“There are issues in Turkey which will not easily be solved because democracy is going backwards,” he said.

“A lot of academics and innocent people were arrested by the Turkish authorities on baseless charges,” Gullo told ARA News.

“Erdogan is a dictator and wants to be a sultan,” he said.

The Syrian Kurdish official hopes that the Turkish government would resumes its negotiations with the Kurds and reach a ceasefire in Turkey.

Moreover, he denied that a Turkish coup pilot who bombed the Turkish parliament fled to Kurdish areas of northern Syria–also known as Rojava in Kurdish.

“The Turkish pilot did not enter Rojava, we don’t have relations. Turkey wants to blame Fethullah Gulen, PYD, YPG and Americans, and export their internal problems,” he said, accusing the Turkish media of working for Erdogan’s propaganda.

“The failed coup was launched against the government because the army is against the Islamic system. The coup plotters want a secular system,” he said.
