BEIRUT Leader of Lebanon’s Shiite militia of Hezbollah on Saturday agreed with a recent statement by the US presidential candidate Donald Trump that the Obama administration has created ISIS.

Speaking at a rally in southern Lebanon on Saturday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said that Trump’s statement is based on “facts and documents”.

“This is an American presidential candidate who is saying this. What he says is based on facts and documents,” Nasrallah said.

Earlier this week, Trump described US President Barack Obama as the “founder” of the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group in Syria and Iraq.

However, Trump has later said that that claim was “intended as sarcasm”.

Thousands of Hezbollah’s militiamen have been involved in the five-year-old Syrian conflict in support of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad against his opponents.

Hezbollah’s leader Nasrallah has repeatedly claimed that the United States helped creating and fueling the rise of ISIS to allegedly destabilise the Middle East.
