AMUDE – The military council of Jarabulus on Sunday released a statement warning Turkey for it’s ‘aggressive actions’ since the start of the Manbij operation in northern Syria, expressing concerns about a potential Turkish intervention in the ISIS-held town of Jarabulus.

“They allowed huge numbers of ISIS militants through the border, to hit the stability in Syria,” the council said. “Turkey is also trying to activate terrorist groups like al-Qaeda in Syria, which are celebrating the beheading of children in Aleppo.”

The Jarabulus council said there might be an agreement between Turkey and ISIS to give the Turkish forces an opportunity to occupy the city of Jarabulus if ISIS is defeated.

“We in the military council of Jarabulus warn the Turkish government for its aggressive actions. We stress we will not stand idle towards such hostile acts,” it said.

“We call on the US-led coalition to abide by its pledges to protect our region from the entry of Turkish forces, and its attempts to occupy Syria and hit the gains of our people,” the council said.

“We consider such attempts an intervention in our domestic issues.”

The Kurds have accused Turkey of supporting ISIS fighters to cross into Jarabulus.

“They support them in Jarabulus, passing the border, and giving them weapons and ammunition,” Salih Muslim, the co-head of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) told ARA News.

The French military intelligence said about 100 foreigners continue to enter Syria from Turkey each week to join ISIS, the Figaro reported.

According to reports, Syrian rebels were preparing to attack the ISIS-held border town of Jarabulus from Turkey.

Turkey is increasingly worried about the recent gains of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Manbij and has reached out to Iran, Russia and indirectly to Assad, and said they would fight the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) –a leading member of SDF– inside Syria, accusing the YPG of having links with Turkey’s PKK.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday: “They [PKK] are separatists and traitors. We will fight against them both in Turkish territories, and in Iraq and Syria where they live, and anywhere, even in Iran.”

The SDF forces are getting nearer the city of al-Bab and Jarabulus in northern Syria after defeating ISIS in the city of Manbij.
