ALEPPO – The Syrian Army and its allies have made new gains in their fight against rebel groups in Aleppo City. These advances are the result of a week-old ground operation aimed at retaking eastern Aleppo.

The Syrian Army has called on rebels to withdraw from the area, offering aid, supplies and safe passage.

The Syrian Army, in a statement published by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), said: “The army’s general command calls all armed fighters in eastern Aleppo to leave these neighborhoods and let civilian residents live their normal lives.”

Supported by the Russian air force and Iranian-backed militias, the Syrian Army has captured the Handarat District and part of the Shuqaif Industrial Area.

According to the United Nations, regime-led forces have destroyed most of the hospitals and medical centres in eastern Aleppo.

Washington and Brussels persist in their efforts to resurrect a ceasefire agreement that collapsed last month.

In the meantime, local sources told ARA News, that Russian and Syrian airstrikes on rebel-held areas of Aleppo continue. Dozens of civilian casualties were reported.
