Hasakah – An unknown masked group on Tuesday evening kidnapped Kurdish journalist and reporter of Welat FM radio station, Sardar Dari, in Syria’s northeastern city of Hasakah after raiding his internet shop in the al-Mufti neighbourhoud in al-Hasakah city.
Dari was later found unconscious and heavily injured in the village of al-Khamael, 20 kilometres off Hasakah, the website of Welat FM said.
“Welat radio is following the details of this cowardly assault incident, to identify the perpetrators and seeks to reveal their identity. We demand the [Rojava] authorities to investigate the incident, and to hold the perpetrators accountable and bring them to justice as soon as possible,” the Radio said in a statement.
Sardar Dari was found severely beaten and stabbed with a knife in his back, which caused an internal bleeding in his lungs. The journalist was immediately transferred to the al-Hasakah hospital, and his health situation remained critical, according to the Kurdish radio station Welat FM.
Dari previously covered the clashes between the Syrian government and the Kurdish Asayish and People’s Protection Units (YPG) in August that lasted for nearly one week.
Welat FM is an independent radio station that broadcasts in the city of Qamishli. It also has reporters in other parts of the Hasakah province.
