Syrian Kurdish official says visit to Japan aimed at discussing Rojava situation, war on ISIS

Hediya Yousef, co-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Federal System of Northern Syria, confirmed in an exclusive interview with ARA News that a delegation of Rojava is visiting Japan to discuss the political situation in northern Syria.

“It is the first visit for an official delegation from Rojava to Japan, which came at the invitation of the Japan-Kurdish Friendship Association,” she said.

“The visit is aimed at discussing the situation of Rojava and northern Syria, the fight against terrorism, and potential solutions to the Syrian crisis,” she told ARA News.

Moreover, she said there is also a visit by Kurds from Turkey to Japan, including a member of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK).

“There was also a delegation from Northern Kurdistan, and a KNK representative in Europe, to discuss the Kurds and their struggle for democracy,” Hediya said.

Sihanok Dibo, a presidential advisor for the Democratic Union Party (PYD) also confirmed the visit.

“The meetings will last 6 days and discuss the situation in Rojava in particular, and the fight against ISIS,” she said.

The delegation was invited by the Japanese-Kurdish Friendship Society, and is led by Hediya Yousif, a Kurdish official of the federal administration in northern Syria, Avin Sweid, the head of the Kurdish National Alliance in Syria, Mustafa Masheikh and Rafiq Jafar.

The delegation is meeting with members of the Japanese parliament and the Japanese foreign ministry to discuss the fight against terrorism and the need of aid for IDPs in northern Syria.
