The US-led coalition has provided 30 vehicles to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in an effort to accelerate the isolation and liberation of Raqqa city from Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants, officials confirmed on Friday.
The armored vehicles were reportedly delivered to the Syrian Arab Coalition (SAC)–a part of the Kurdish-led SDF alliance.
“We have provided Guardian vehicles in the past. The last [shipment] included more than 30 vehicles, which had been delivered to the Syrian Arab Coalition,” said Colonel Joseph Scrocca, Public Affairs Director of the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve.
“It might be more by now, but that was the last delivery I’d heard about,” he said.
Moreover, the coalition’s Colonel said they do not provide arms and equipment to the Kurdish factions of the SDF.
“We provide arms and equipment, as well as training, to the Syrian Arab Coalition only. And those are the vetted members of the Syrian Arab Coalition which is part of the overall SDF,” he said.
“So, we provide it to a specific group — a vetted portion of the SDF,” he added.
Meanwhile, Scrocca denied recent reports about the death of an engineer near the Tabqa Dam in Raqqa countryside.
“In regard to the engineers around Tabqa Dam, the volunteer engineers that went in from the Red Crescent that we were tracking, all of them came out of the dam and we know of none of them that were killed,” he said.
“I saw on social media that ISIS reported some engineer was killed. All I know is that the volunteer engineers all came out again,” he concluded.
