A senior Syrian Kurdish official said on Monday that Turkish artillery shelling has killed civilians in Northern Aleppo.

“The bombing of the Turkish occupation on the northern countryside of Aleppo killed a number of civilians and injured others,” said Abdulkarim Omer, the head of foreign relations for Cezire Canton in Syria’s Kurdish region-Rojava.

“Civilians were shelled by the Turkish fascist forces on areas in Sheikh Issa and Tal Rifat and other areas of the northern Aleppo countryside,” he added.

On Monday, the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) held a meeting in Efrin town in northwestern Aleppo with 700 members of the Kurdish-led Democratic Autonomous Administration, TEV-DEM’s institutions and local councils, to discuss ways to deal with possible Turkish plans to attack Efrin and discussed ways how to train civilians on self-protection.

Aldar Xelil, a senior TEV-DEM official, said last week that Turkey wants to prop up ISIS and that the Kurdish people will rebuff any attack on Afrin.

“Turkey’s reckless behavior and attempts to carry out attacks against our people, particularly in Afrin, are aimed at preventing the death of the [ISIS] project,” Xelil reasoned.

“[Ankara] aims to obstruct our efforts to expand the democratic project.”

However, Xelil said that if the international community does not intercede to halt Turkey’s aggression, the local communities will resign themselves to resistance.
