Syria’s Raqqa in turmoil as violence increases

Urfa, Turkey− For two weeks now, the countryside of Raqqa city still witnesses clashes between the militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and fighters of Raqqa Rebels’ brigade −affiliated with the Free Syrian Army (FSA).  

Local sources informed ARA News that “heavy and medium weapons were used by both ISIL and the Brigade  (Raqqa Rebels) in Frean village, north of Ain Issa town in Raqqa countryside, northeast of Syria.”

According to sources, Raqqa Rebels’ brigade used two mortars to target an ISIL-led checkpoint on Thursday.

At least two ISIL militants were reported dead due to the attack. 

Meanwhile, one civilian was killed by ISIL-linked sniper in Ain Issa town in Raqqa countryside on Thursday evening. 

The northern part of Raqqa province witnesses continuous clashes between ISIL militants and battalions affiliated with the FSA.
