Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – Militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) launched a campaign of arrests against Kurdish civilians in al-Bab area in Aleppo countryside, north Syria. At least 100 civilians were captured by ISIL.

ISIL group accused the detained Kurdish civilians of having ties with the Free Syrian Army (FSA). The group has earlier imposed restrictions on Kurdish villagers near al-Bab city, reportedly to force them leave their villages and property.

Jamshid Omar, activist based in al-Bab city, told ARA News that few days ago, ISIL group arrested nearly 100 people in the villages of Nu’man, Qebbasin, Sosenbat, Shedoud, Shawi, and al-Ra’ee.

“ISIL continues its arrest campaign, preventing any movements across the villages,” Omar said. “But, it is allowed to move during the day through the sand roads as all the paved roads around these villages are blocked by ISIL-held barriers .”

These developments coincided with repeated harassment towards Kurdish farmers by ISIL group, preventing them from collecting their crops in the villages of Tel Erren, Tel Hasel and Kafr Sagheer, in Aleppo countryside.

“ISIL practices against Kurds resulted in displacement of approximately 50 thousand Kurdish citizens towards unknown destinations, while their private properties have been looted and sabotaged by ISIL militants,” local sources told ARA News.

According to reports, ISIL group destroyed large number of civil records and property documents of civilians from deserted villages in Aleppo countryside.

Observers argue that such practices aim to change the demographic composition of those areas to end any active Kurdish existence, amid the silence and Kurdish political institutions.

Meanwhile, activists reported that three corpses belonging to Kurdish civilians were found in the municipal dump near the town of al-Ra’ee in al-Bab area, north of Syria.
