Al-Hasakah, Syria – On Saturday, fighter jets of the U.S.-led international coalition led launched several raids on sites belonging to the  Islamic State extremist group (IS/ISIL), an al-Qaeda offshoot, in Deir ez-Zor suburbs, eastern Syria.

Speaking to ARA News in Deir ez-Zor, civil rights activist Fayez Abdulaziz said that the U.S.-led Coalition’s warplanes targeted the IS-held granaries area north of the city of Deir ez-Zor with guided missiles, killing and injuring dozens of militants.

This coincided with an aerial bombardment by the pro-Assad warplanes in the vicinity of the military airport of Deir ez-Zor and the city of Mohassan, but on casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, activists reported that on Saturday IS militant fighters controlled several villages in al-Hasakah province near the Iraqi border, northeastern Syria.

The village of Kenana, Qadaa, and Hamadaneh in Tel Kocher (Yarubia) suburbs were captured by IS militants following clashes with the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG).

“These villages were taken as strongholds by the Kurdish forces of the YPG and were used as military bases from which they repeatedly attacked militants of the Islamic State; thus losing these villages meant a strategic loss for the YPG,” a member of the YPG told ARA News, under the condition of anonymity.

Regarding the situation in the Kurdish city of Kobane in Aleppo province, the Kurdish journalist Kamal Oscan talked to ARA News at the Syrian-Turkish border, saying that five shells fell on the eastern side of the city of Kobane, amid a wave of displacement among civilians who continued crossing into Turkey.

Activists told ARA News that militants of IS targeted the city of Kobane with mortar fire on Saturday afternoon. Three civilians were reported dead.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-led fighter jets hit IS headquarters in the countryside of Kobane for the third consecutive day.
