Obama seeks Congress authorization to intensify anti-IS operations

ARA News

Geneva, Switzerland – On Wednesday, the U.S. President Barack Obama said that an authorization is needed from the Congress to intensify military operations against militants of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

Obama stated that he currently seeks a new authorization from the congress “to use forces against Islamic State militants”, Reuters reported.

This authorizations, according to the American President who has recently formed an international coalition to combat IS in Syria and Iraq, is aimed to “right-size” the efforts of addressing current threats in the region.

Obama also emphasized that the U.S. current focus on Syria was not meant to find a solution to the entire conflict in the war-torn country, but rather to isolate cities and towns from the threat of the IS extremists.
