Damascus, Syria – On Tuesday, the pro-regime forces regained areas held by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in Damascus suburbs, southern Syria, local sources reported.
This coincided with the continued efforts by the international envoy Steffan de Mistura with the Syrian opposition to implement a truce in war-torn areas.
Pro-regime military forces imposed their control on the town of Darayya in the western Ghouta of Damascus countryside.
One of the FSA’s fighters was reported dead Tuesday afternoon, during clashes with pro-regime forces in Darayya.
Speaking to ARA News in Damascus, civil rights activist Ahmed Sabbagh said that clashes broke out between FSA-linked faction of the Islamic Union of Ajnad al-Sham and members of the pro-regime forces in the Kornish Qadima area eastern the city, while the pro-regime forces blew up a tunnel in the region, killing at least one fighter from Ajnad al-Sham.
“The pro-regime forces targeted residential neighborhoods in the city with ground to ground rockets launched from its headquarters of the 4th Division in Moadamieh,” Sabbagh added.
The civil rights activist Yezen Ibrahim, based in Damascus, told ARA News that similar clashes broke out in the outskirts of Zebdin town near the International Airport of Damascus in the Eastern Ghouta, coinciding with bombardment by heavy artillery and rocket launchers on the town from the regime’s headquarters in the Air Defense Administration in the nearby sub-district of Maliha.
Ibrahim pointed out that the western city of Zabadani in Ghouta was exposed to artillery shelling by the pro-regime forces. No casualties were reported.
Also on Tuesday, one civilian was reportedly shot dead by a pro-regime sniper in the al-Wafidin camp near the Damascus-Homs Highway.
These developments came as fighting escalated in several areas in the countryside of Damascus, in an attempt by the military forces of the regime to advance in the western and eastern Ghoutas of Damascus countryside.
