Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil al-Arabi, announced on Wednesday in Cairo that the current challenges confronting the Arab nation “necessitate the formation of a joint Arab force”.

Al-Arabi said in a meeting of chiefs of staff of the Arab armies in the Egyptian capital: “The purpose of today’s meeting is to develop appropriate mechanisms of reaching a consensus on the formation of a joint Arab force.”

The Secretary General of the Arab League emphasized that the concept of a joint Arab force “does not imply establishing a new military coalition”.

“What is required here is to develop a comprehensive perception of Arab national security; it is urgent to form a joint Arab force that is capable of intervening in a crisis situation to protect the security of the member states.”

The Chiefs of Staff of the Arab armies arrives to Cairo on Tuesday to discuss the formation of a joint force in order to implement the decision of the 26th Arab Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

Speaking to ARA News, journalist Rashid Sekvan said that the so-called joint Arab force is a green light for the Arab regimes to confront and smash any possible popular revolutions against their totalitarian rules.

“This will only happen by the support of the western powers because it’s time to stop the bloodshed in the Middle East and North Africa, especially after large arms shipments were exported to these war-torn countries,” he argued.

Noteworthy, the Arab meeting for discussing the establishment of a joint Arab force comes a day after the announcement of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the allied countries the end of military operations against the Houthis in Yemen and the suspension of the so-called “al-Hazm Storm” (joint Arab military operations against Houthi rebels) and begin the process of what they described as “Return of Hope” to search for a comprehensive political solution in Yemen.
