Erbil, Kurdistan Region – On Wednesday, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) announced responsibility for the killing of six members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on Mount Shaho in northeastern Iran.

Kurdish fighters of PDKI’s Peshmerga reportedly killed six Iranian military members, including Gen. Jabbar Gul Mohammadi, commander of the Revolutionary Guards.

General Mohammadi joined the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in 1979, and was known for his involvement in several battles against the Kurdish Peshmerga in northeastern Iran.

Speaking to ARA news, Kurdish political activist Didar Shamdin said that the Kurdish people in Eastern Kurdistan (Iranian Kurdistan) have suffered for decades from brutal practices of the dictatorial regime in Iran.

“The current wave of change in the Middle-East has influenced the situation in Iran as well. Kurds will continue the fight for their rights, regardless of the brutal response by the tyrant regime,” Shamdin said.

Last month, Kurdish people in the city of Mahabad, northwestern Iran, protested against the Iranian authorities. Dozens were killed and hundreds were arrested by the security forces.
