Urfa, Turkey – Saudi authorities announced Saturday the arrest of hundreds of suspects belonging to the radical group of Islamic State (IS/ISIS), and thwarted suicide bombings before targeting mosques and vital facilities in different parts of the Kingdom.

Saudi Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the number of the arrested terrorist suspects reached 431, mostly Saudi citizens.

The ministry added that six suicide attacks, that were planned to target a number of mosques and governmental institutions, were foiled by security forces in the past few days.

A Saudi security officer was reportedly assassinated by IS-linked jihadists.

“The Saudi security forces foiled terrorist plans to target a diplomatic mission and governmental facilities in Sharourah province,” the statement added.

Human rights activist Abdul Majeed Salqini told ARA News that the recent IS-led operations in Saudi Arabia “come as a result of radical practices tolerated by Saudi authorities. That’s why most of the attackers are Saudi nationals.”
