At least 55 PKK rebels killed in Turkish military operation in Kurdish province

CIZRE – At least 55 Kurdish rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were killed in Turkish military operations in Şırnak province, southeast Turkey, over the last three days. 

The Turkish army said in a statement on Friday that 49 PKK rebels were killed in clashes with Turkish military forces in the town of Cizre in Şırnak province.

It added that six more PKK rebels were killed in similar clashes in the town of Silopi in the southeastern province of Şırnak. 

On the other hand, 19 Turkish troops were wounded during the recent clashes with the PKK, according to the army statement. 

Meanwhile, local sources in Cizre reported a large damage in the infrastructure of the town, beside a mass destruction in residential buildings and the Mendres primary school in the same town due to the army bombardment.

Turkish state media confirmed Thursday that some 10,000 military forces are participating in the ongoing operation in Şırnak.
