DOHUK – The extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) threw five Iraqi men off the top of a building in Mosul city in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh for being gay, accusing them of “sodomy”, local sources reported on Thursday.

Locals confirmed that three civilians and two ISIS militants were arrested by the group’s security forces [Hisba police] on charges of homosexuality and were thrown from the top of a building in central Mosul.

Speaking to ARA News in Mosul, rights activist Ali al-Ahmed confirmed that ISIS has sentenced two of its own militants and three civilians to death by throwing them from the top of a building in Mosul, after accusing them of sodomy.

“The five men were thrown brutally by ISIS masked members from the top of the insurance company building in Bab at-Toub area,” al-Ahmad reported, pointing out “the corpses of the victims were transferred to an unknown destination.”

“The barbaric execution took place in front of hundreds of people,” an eyewitness told ARA News in Mosul, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“Throwing gays this way will cleanse their sins,” the source cited an ISIS Sharia official as saying.

Jamal Abdul Ghafoor, a media activist based in Mosul, told ARA News: “This is not the first time that ISIS execute people this way; the group has recently thrown nine civilians from the top of a building in the city of Mosul for being gay.”

“Although the Islamic law bans homosexuality, but Daesh’s way of punishment has never been witnessed throughout history,” Abdul Ghafour argued, using an acronym for ISIS.

On October 4, the terror group had executed two Iraqi civilians in the northwestern Iraqi city of Mosul for being gay. The ISIS militants brutally threw the two young men off a building’s roof under the pretext they were a “gay couple”.

The ISIS-linked Sharia Court had issued a decision to execute every gay man by throwing him from the top of a building, according to eyewitnesses.

The extremist group has executed dozens of allegedly gay men in its areas of control in Syria and Iraq.
