French President visits Iraqi Kurdistan, says Paris to continue supporting Peshmerga against ISIS

Duhok – The French President Francois Hollande on Monday visited Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan Region, and met Kurdish President Masoud Barzani to discuss the recent developments of the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).

During his visit, Hollande stressed that France will continue to support to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army in their war against ISIS militants.

“France will provide all the support needed to eliminate terrorism,” he said.

Accompanied by Barzani, Hollande also visited a Peshmerga headquarters in Mount Zerdek near Mosul, where the Kurdish forces and Iraqi troops continued their fight against ISIS.

The French President visited Erbil after meeting Iraqi government officials in Baghdad on Monday.

“Taking action against terrorism here in Iraq is also preventing acts of terrorism on our own soil,” he said.
